D & D Quail Farm Doug and Deanna Horinek 83 Riverbirch Trail Long Lane, MO 65590 417-345-8180

Welcome to our Bobwhite quail and pheasant farm located on the Niangua River, east of Buffalo, Missouri. As a Northwest Kansas farm boy Doug raised quail, pheasant and other gamebirds as a hobby. His desire to re-enter that hobby has now become a commercial adventure for the two of us. Coming from rural surroundings with a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors and wildlife, it was not hard to imagine we would choose this route!
One big difference between here and Northwest Kansas is there were a lot of trees to remove before we could build our pens. Another is the amount of rain we get. It's highly recommended to raise quail on wire floored pens in Missouri due to the high level of moisture. We have built three of them, but have decided to try something new and are experimenting with raising quail in "ground pens". We plant milo and millet, and let natural grasses grow to provide extra coverage. Each pen also has buildings attached or shelters within for added protection from the elements. We also have corrogated tin around the base of each pen and electric wires at two levels to keep out preditors.
Flight conditioned quail are available starting in August and chicks are available from May-August. Flight conditioned Pheasants are available starting in October. Please call or email for availability and pricing.
If you do not live in Missouri, we do not know what other states require. You will need to determine that and make sure you meet any requirments of your state before placing an order.
In Missouri, it is required that anyone who purchases live birds must possess a gamebird permit from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The Conservation Department offers a variety of permits. Do your own research and decide which one best fits your needs. You can contact them at:
